PURPOSE. The purpose of the Write Here, Write Now workshops is to create and sustain a community of writers in Baltimore, and give each member a place to develop their voice and vision in an non-academic setting. We offer productive, supportive feedback and encouragement, while honoring the mystery and magic of writing, as well as technique/craft.
PASSION. It's also about having a good workshop experience, and experimenting with, and exploring, your abilities -- as well as discovering new ones. Let loose your passion for writing!
PERKS. We work with local organizations to deepen and expand the writing experience/life by offering writers the opportunity to participate in readings, publication of their work in an annual anthology called The Yearbook, creative projects to be displayed in gallery shows, performances of their plays by local theatre companies, participation in area literary/book festivals, and interaction with the media. Past workshop participants are invited to the WHWN Salons, held 3-4 times a year. These are *FREE* Saturday workshops - great for feedback on works-in-progress between classes and to enjoy hanging out with other members of the WHWN community!
PARTICULARS: Workshops are held throughout the year on Thursday nights from 7 - 9 pm at The Patterson at Creative Alliance in Highlandtown (3134 Eastern Avenue). We offer classes in poetry, writing the 10-minute play, non-fiction, fiction, and a master class in which participants may bring a finished manuscript for polishing/critique prior to submitting it to agents and editors.
We're always adding new classes, and new twists to current ones, so keep checking back to see what we're plotting (pun intended)!
